Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster
This is an advanced course for those with more experience, from the day skipper course perhaps. The course covers the theory knowledge up to the level required to take a Yachtmaster exam. Evening courses are an excellent way of achieving the high standards required as they allow time for revision and practice. At Pin Mill it is possible to practice light recognition by simply looking out of the window!
If attending a winter evening course is impossible, 6 days or week-end courses are also available.
The course fee includes the full RYA pack of charts, exercises and course book.

- position fixing
- course shaping and plotting
- tidal knowledge
- use of almanacs and admiralty publications
- electronic position finding equipment
- taking and interpreting forecasts
- plotting weather systems
- weather predictions using a barometer and by observation
- collision regulations
- customs and excise regulations for cruising abroad
Evening course, over 2 winter terms, £395, including the RYA pack. Maximum courses size 12. Or intensive course, 3 week-ends or 6 other non-consecutive days, £545, including the RYA pack. Maximum course size 6.
